But to get there, players need to keep the upgradable pirate ship Jackdaw in good nick and its crew in good shape, navigating treacherous storms as well as the warring British and Spanish fleets, whose ships can be picked off, captains captured, and cargo looted.
Forts, too, can be invaded and captured, a neccessary action in order to clear the way to new islands, and doing so unlocks both the fort and its side missions to Kenway and his crew.
"Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag" releases on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U the week of October 29, with PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions to follow later in the year
